Whether it is in books, in real life, or online, I often search consciously for muses. As an illustrator, I consider it homework. In pursuit of an electric feeling that I experience whenever I meet - or hear about - a woman with a unique story and mission, who is making an impact. In one way or another.

My search for creative muses is both fueled by curiosity and a selfish desire: to be inspired but also to see what I could be one day, maybe if I work hard enough. Because I create illustrations - my name is Anna Lena, nice to meet you - I try to make it my mission to observe people and their personalities, so I can hope to capture it in a visual interpretation.

In the recent year, I have pivoted my business and my approach to illustration by experimenting A TON. It has helped me pinpoint my mission and my ambitions, and giving me a stable income: yet I also experience an increase in self-doubt. My inner critic has become more and more vocal. Perhaps, I think, because the time I now spent on client projects would before be spent on thoughtless creation and play. Looking for a way to incorporate this sense of play into my daily routine again, I accidentally stumbled upon the 100 Day Project. Reading about it made my palms itch with anticipation - and so began my 100 Creative Girls project.

Through my project, I want to introduce the audience to women with an interesting creative approach to their life, business, or career. By drawing a portrait of them, each one with the same marker, as quickly as I can, in just one attempt, I almost feel like I’m not giving them enough appreciation for what they do. Just for myself and my own creative practice, the project has given back the sense of play and experimentation, even though I am only two weeks in!

I’m so excited that I get to share this project with you, here on the Creative Women Collective website. I can’t wait to see where this project will take my creativity, and what interesting women I will learn about in the process - feel free to reach out to me on insta with any suggestions you may have for who to draw. After all, I’m nothing without my muses.
